Republic, Washington – Drivers across the Okanogan Highlands could encounter snow-covered roads as early as 4 a.m. Monday, with accumulations building through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for areas including Sherman Pass, Wauconda Summit and Chesaw Road. Above 2,500 feet, snow totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected, while valleys below 2,500 feet may see up to 2 inches.
Highway 20 over Wauconda Summit and routes near Republic and Inchelium are likely to become slick during the Monday morning commute. Snowfall rates may briefly intensify during the late morning and midday hours.
In North Idaho, a separate advisory takes effect from 7 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday for the Central Panhandle Mountains and Lewis and southern Nez Perce counties. Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Pass and areas near Wallace and Kellogg could pick up 2 to 5 inches above 3,000 feet, with lighter totals in lower elevations.
Motorists should slow down and allow extra time, especially on mountain passes and shaded roadways. Check wsdot.wa.gov or call Idaho 511 for the latest road conditions before departure. Advisories remain in effect into Tuesday morning.
