Idaho–Oregon – Light freezing rain is creating slick conditions across parts of southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon overnight, prompting winter weather advisories through early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. MST Friday (4 a.m. PST) for the Lower Treasure Valley in Idaho and Malheur County in Oregon, as well as the Upper Weiser River region in Idaho and Baker County in Oregon.
Forecasters say rain and light freezing rain are expected, with very light ice accumulations possible. While ice amounts are expected to remain minimal, even a thin glaze can lead to very slippery conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Communities within the advisory areas include Nampa, Caldwell, Nyssa, Ontario, Malheur City, Cambridge, Council, Baker, and Indian Valley. Overnight temperatures near or below freezing may allow rain to freeze on contact with cold surfaces.
Officials warn that travel conditions could deteriorate quickly overnight, especially for early-morning drivers. The hazardous conditions may impact pre-dawn commutes and routine overnight travel.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use caution when driving or walking outdoors. Residents are also advised to prepare for possible isolated power outages, although widespread outages are not expected.
Drivers can check current road conditions by calling 511 in their state before traveling.
For early-shift workers and overnight travelers across the Idaho–Oregon border region, the advisory highlights the risk of slick travel conditions until temperatures rise later Friday morning.
