Boise, Idaho – Flash flooding could strike areas of central Idaho and eastern Oregon Friday as thunderstorms dump heavy rain over wildfire burn scars, prompting an urgent Flash Flood Watch through 9 p.m. MDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise and Pendleton, localized downpours from slow-moving storms may lead to debris flows and rapid runoff, especially in regions scorched by past fires. Areas under watch include the Wapiti, Falls, Crazy Creek, and Rail Ridge burn scars, affecting cities like McCall, Stanley, Prairie City, and Burns.

In Idaho, the Sawtooth/Stanley Basin and Boise Mountains are at heightened risk, with rainfall expected to intensify during afternoon and early evening hours. In Oregon, Harney, Baker, and Malheur counties could also see dangerous flooding near sensitive terrain.

Emergency managers urge residents and holiday campers to stay away from steep slopes, dry creek beds, and recently burned hillsides. If heavy rain begins, move to higher ground immediately and do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

Rainfall is expected to ease by late evening, but additional watches may be issued if storms persist.
