Grangeville, Idaho – Residents in north central Idaho should prepare for dangerously hot conditions starting Monday, with temperatures soaring past 100°F in parts of the Salmon River and Clearwater regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon Monday through 9 p.m. Tuesday for the Lower Hells Canyon/Salmon River Region and the Orofino/Grangeville area. Afternoon highs are expected to climb to 103–104°F, with nighttime lows offering little relief, staying in the upper 50s to mid-60s.

Communities along U.S. Route 95—including White Bird, Cottonwood, and Kooskia—could see widespread heat-related strain, especially for those without access to cooling or hydration. Health systems and outdoor industries may experience increased pressure during the advisory window.

Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, check in on vulnerable neighbors, and ensure access to water and shade. OSHA recommends outdoor workers take frequent breaks in cool areas and monitor for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

This is one of the first major heat waves of the season for the Idaho panhandle. More advisories could be issued if the pattern persists.
