Boise, Idaho – Scorching summer heat is gripping western Idaho as a Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Treasure Valley, with highs surging past 100 degrees from Caldwell and Boise to Grand View and Weiser. Residents are urged to take precautions as the risk for heat-related illness spikes through Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, temperatures will peak at 105° in Emmett and 103° in both Caldwell and Mountain Home, with little relief expected overnight. A slight chance of thunderstorms—ranging from 10% to 20%—emerges late Tuesday into Wednesday, mainly for southeast Oregon, the west-central Idaho mountains, and areas near McCall, Grasmere, and Riggins. These storms could bring gusty winds and lightning, but widespread rain is unlikely.

Triple-digit heat stretches from Ontario, Oregon, across the Idaho border to Gooding and Weiser, making outdoor activities dangerous during the afternoon. Local agencies recommend staying hydrated, limiting outdoor work, and checking on vulnerable neighbors, pets, and livestock. Air conditioning and cool shelters are especially critical for the young, elderly, and those without reliable cooling.

While only a few storms are expected, isolated downpours or gusty winds could cause brief travel issues along I-84 and Highway 95. This is the region’s first major July heat event, reminiscent of last summer’s extended hot streak.

The Heat Advisory continues until 9 p.m. Tuesday, with more alerts possible if temperatures remain high or thunderstorm coverage increases.
