Boise, ID – The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for parts of southwest Idaho, warning that heavy rainfall may cause dangerous flooding conditions from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon.

According to the NWS in Boise, the watch covers the Boise Mountains and West Central Mountains, including the cities of McCall, Cascade, Prairie, Ola, Pine, Bear, Cuprum, Anderson Dam, Big Creek, and Warm Lake.

Forecasters say an additional 1 to 1.5 inches of rain is expected, on top of recent heavy rainfall. Officials warn that steep terrain and burn scar areas are especially vulnerable to debris flows and sudden flooding.

“Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible,” the NWS stated in Wednesday’s advisory. Communities near wildfire burn scars should remain alert, as even brief periods of heavy rain can send water, mud, and rock rushing down drainages.

The Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from Thursday evening (Oct. 2) until Friday afternoon (Oct. 3). Residents are advised to stay tuned to updated forecasts and be ready to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.

Safety officials remind drivers never to attempt crossing flooded roads and to move to higher ground if flooding occurs.
