Idaho Falls, Idaho – Wildfire risk is at a critical high across the Upper Snake River Valley this Saturday as dry air and strong winds trigger a Red Flag Warning through 8 p.m. MDT.
According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, wind gusts up to 35 mph from the southwest combined with humidity as low as 13% could lead to extreme fire behavior across Fire Weather Zone 410, which includes Idaho Falls Bureau of Land Management areas.
Fire crews across Bonneville County and surrounding areas are on heightened alert, with officials urging residents to avoid any open flames, outdoor welding, or use of machinery that can spark. Critically dry fuels throughout southeastern Idaho mean even small ignitions can rapidly spread.
Drivers should avoid pulling over on dry grass, and campers are reminded that charcoal grills and campfires should be avoided today.
This warning follows a week of hot, dry weather and comes as more seasonal wind events are expected in the coming days.
The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday, and additional fire weather alerts could follow if conditions persist.
