Idaho Falls, ID – Residents across eastern Idaho should prepare for chilly conditions Tuesday morning as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pocatello has issued a Frost Advisory.

According to the NWS, the advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. MDT Tuesday, Sept. 23, impacting portions of the Arco/Mud Lake Desert, Upper Snake River Plain, and Lower Snake River Plain. Communities under the advisory include Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Pocatello, Blackfoot, St. Anthony, Mud Lake, and surrounding areas.

Forecasters say temperatures could fall as low as 33 degrees, creating conditions favorable for frost formation. The advisory highlights higher-risk locations such as Atomic City, Hamer, Camas, the Pingree-to-Blackfoot corridor, western Idaho Falls, and the Rexburg-to-Chester region.

Frost may damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if plants are left unprotected. The NWS advises residents to take steps now, such as covering plants or bringing them indoors, to prevent losses.

This advisory follows a stretch of mild September weather but serves as a reminder of the seasonal shift in eastern Idaho. Gardeners and farmers in affected counties are encouraged to monitor conditions closely overnight.
