Boise, ID – Residents in southwest Idaho are under an air stagnation advisory until 11 a.m. Friday as calm winds and cold air trap pollutants near the surface. Poor air quality may pose health risks, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory covers Boise, Nampa, Twin Falls, and surrounding areas. Health officials urge residents to minimize outdoor activities and limit exposure to polluted air, particularly during the early morning hours when conditions are worst.

Overnight temperatures Friday will dip to 25 degrees, with calm winds creating the conditions for stagnation. By Saturday, high temperatures will climb to 35 degrees under mostly sunny skies. However, overnight lows will drop to 19 degrees, keeping the air brisk.

The extended forecast shows sunny skies dominating through next week. Sunday will bring a high of 32 degrees, followed by a chilly Sunday night with a low of 16. Martin Luther King Day is expected to be sunny with a high of 31.

For those needing to travel, avoid idling vehicles, as it worsens air pollution during stagnation events. Anyone with breathing issues should consult their physician for precautions.
