Philadelphia, PA – As temperatures plummet, residents across Pennsylvania are urged to prepare for a dangerously cold weekend ahead. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for Monroe and Carbon counties, with temperatures expected to feel as low as -12 degrees overnight Saturday into Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, gusty winds up to 35 mph will accompany the freezing conditions, creating hazardous wind chills and potentially icy roads. Travel through higher elevations and rural routes in these areas, including Route 209 and Interstate 80, is expected to be treacherous. Drivers are encouraged to limit travel and dress in layers if venturing outdoors.
Saturday’s daytime high will hover near 33 degrees in Philadelphia before temperatures plunge to a low of 18 overnight. Sunny skies are forecast Sunday, but bitter winds will keep highs at just 27 degrees. Clear skies will persist through Monday, with a slightly warmer high of 31.
Snow chances return early Tuesday as a storm system moves into the region. While accumulation remains uncertain, wintry precipitation could complicate holiday travel. Christmas Day offers a welcome reprieve, with sunny skies and temperatures reaching 40 degrees.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor decorations and monitor updates from the National Weather Service for changing conditions. For assistance during extreme cold, contact local warming shelters or community resources.
