Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh reports that patchy black ice and areas of freezing fog are possible this morning across the far northern Piedmont, mainly along and northwest of Interstate 85.
Communities including Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Burlington, Chapel Hill, northern Durham, Roxboro, and Henderson could experience slick conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Temperatures hovering near or below freezing will make travel hazardous through mid-morning.
In addition to icy roads, freezing fog may reduce visibility to less than half a mile at times. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights when driving in foggy or icy areas.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 8 AM, with temperatures rising above freezing and visibility improving by around 9 AM.
