Eugene, OR – A blast of Arctic air will grip Oregon tonight, bringing dangerously low temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees. The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory from 7 p.m. Monday until noon Tuesday, warning residents of frostbite and hypothermia risks.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, wind chill values could make it feel as cold as 10°F, especially in the Columbia River Gorge. Unprotected skin could suffer frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are urged to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
Across Lane County, Portland, Salem, and Eugene, temperatures will plummet overnight, with calm conditions leading to rapidly cooling air. The cold will persist through Tuesday morning before a slight warm-up into the 30s and 40s later in the week.
By Wednesday night, a new system will bring a chance of snow followed by rain, increasing the risk of slick roads. Thursday night may see freezing rain, creating hazardous travel conditions.
Officials urge residents to check on vulnerable individuals, keep pets indoors, and use portable heaters safely. Warmer temperatures are expected by the weekend, but icy conditions remain a concern.
