PHILADELPHIA – A steamy Thursday across the Mid-Atlantic is set to give way to a soggy and potentially dangerous evening commute, as heavy showers and thunderstorms target the I-95 corridor from Philadelphia to Wilmington and Trenton. The National Weather Service warns that downpours could trigger localized flash flooding, especially in urban areas and low-lying spots.

According to the Weather Prediction Center, most of New Jersey, Delaware, and southeastern Pennsylvania are under a marginal risk for excessive rainfall through late tonight. Rain chances peak between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., with some cities including Trenton, Philadelphia, and Vineland holding a 58–60% chance of precipitation.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s, with oppressive humidity pushing heat index values into the mid- to upper-90s in many locations. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain. Road ponding and rapid rises in small streams are possible, particularly along heavily traveled routes like I-95, Route 1, and the Garden State Parkway.

Conditions should improve overnight as a cold front clears the region, though lingering showers may persist into early Friday.
