Richmond, Va. – Drivers along the I-95 corridor could encounter thunderstorms Thursday afternoon into the evening, bringing gusty winds and brief downpours across eastern Virginia and southern Maryland.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, storms are most likely between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., stretching from the Northern Neck of Virginia into Dorchester County, Maryland. Forecasters say damaging wind gusts up to 35 mph are the main concern, but overall confidence in severe weather remains low.

Localized impacts could still disrupt evening travel, especially on I-95 and U.S. Route 17. Downed tree limbs and minor power outages are possible where stronger cells develop. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and use caution if driving through sudden heavy rain.

The storm threat should taper off late Thursday night, with quieter conditions returning Friday. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor storm development and issue warnings if necessary.
