PHILADELPHIA, PA – Across southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware, lawns sparkle under a crisp layer of frost as dawn breaks. Air temperatures have dipped near freezing in some suburbs, signaling the growing season’s final curtain call. By Sunday, that quiet chill will give way to soaking rain and gusty winds, capping a weekend of sharp weather swings across the I-95 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Frost Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Friday for Philadelphia and Delaware Counties, where readings bottomed out near 32°F. Residents are urged to protect tender plants and garden vegetation from the cold. A Special Weather Statement also flags an elevated fire risk today as relative humidity drops into the 30s and gusts reach 25 to 30 mph across open areas from Media to Wilmington. Outdoor burning should be avoided until winds calm later in the afternoon.

The quiet, sunny stretch won’t last long. By late Saturday, clouds increase as a low-pressure system lifts from the Ohio Valley. Showers will spread eastward, becoming widespread by Sunday with rainfall totals approaching a half inch. Winds along bridges and exposed roadways—especially on I-95 and Route 1—could make travel slower at times. Temperatures will fall back into the 50s Monday, signaling an early hint of winter as drier air pushes in.

Looking ahead to Veterans Day and mid-November, long-range models suggest a colder pattern settling from the Great Lakes into the Northeast, possibly setting the stage for the region’s first snowflakes before Thanksgiving. For now, Friday’s crisp air and bright sunshine offer a calm pause before the next system rolls through.
