Washington, DC – Snow is expected to impact travel across the District of Columbia, much of Maryland, and northern Virginia late Saturday into Sunday morning, prompting Winter Weather Advisories for a wide portion of the region.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, snow will begin spreading into the area late Saturday afternoon and evening, with the heaviest snowfall expected between late evening and early Sunday morning.

In eastern Garrett and western Allegany counties in Maryland, along with western Mineral and Pendleton counties in West Virginia, 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected from 4 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Across the Baltimore–Washington metro, including DC, Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, Montgomery, Howard, Baltimore, Harford, Carroll, Cecil counties, and parts of northern Virginia, snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected from 8 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Localized amounts of 4 to 5 inches are possible, especially across Baltimore and northeastern Maryland, if a narrow band of heavier snow develops overnight.

In Calvert and Charles counties, snow is expected from midnight through 10 a.m. Sunday, with 1 to 3 inches possible. Some areas may briefly see rain at the onset before changing to snow.

Officials warn that roads could become slick and hazardous, particularly overnight and during the early Sunday morning commute. Visibility may drop below one-half mile at times in heavier snow bands.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check current road conditions by calling 511 before heading out.
