Minneapolis, MN – Sunshine greets much of Minnesota this Columbus Day morning, but a midweek chill is set to move in fast. Travelers along I-94 and residents across the Twin Cities should prepare for on-and-off showers and a noticeable temperature drop starting Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday will stay mild and mostly sunny with highs near 62°F. Clouds begin increasing tonight, signaling a shift toward cooler and wetter conditions. By Tuesday, rain chances rise to 40%, with showers expected to linger through Wednesday and Thursday.

Wind speeds will stay light, but the return of clouds will bring daytime highs down into the upper 50s by midweek. Commuters should plan extra travel time on Wednesday morning as wet roads may slow traffic on I-35W, I-94, and Highway 62.

Looking ahead, Thursday brings another round of scattered showers before skies gradually clear Friday. Highs may rebound into the low 70s, offering a brief return to comfortable fall conditions before another system approaches over the weekend.

Pumpkin patch trips and fall color outings will fare best early in the week or by next weekend once drier air returns.

5-Day Forecast (Minneapolis-St. Paul)

  • Tuesday: Showers developing, high 54°F
  • Wednesday: Showers, high 57°F
