ALBANY, N.Y. – The quiet gray skies hanging over the Capital Region this morning are only the calm before a colder change. Damp streets and brisk winds hint at what’s next — a stretch of early winter weather poised to settle in through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, several waves of rain will move through today before colder air rushes in from the northwest Monday night. That change will cause rain to mix with, and briefly change to, snow, especially across Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Albany counties. While no major accumulation is expected, flakes could stick on grassy surfaces and bridges as temperatures drop below freezing.

By Veterans Day, a sharp breeze will make highs near 37°F feel even colder. Light snow showers are possible early Tuesday, tapering by afternoon as drier air moves in. Wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph could make the air feel closer to the mid-20s — a noticeable bite for those attending outdoor ceremonies or traveling early in the day.

Drivers along I-87 and I-90 should stay alert for changing conditions late Monday and Tuesday mornings, especially on elevated ramps and rural routes where light icing can form first.

Looking ahead, the region stays cool and unsettled, with another round of rain or snow showers possible Wednesday. Highs will rebound into the mid-40s by late week, but the crisp air is here to stay — a clear sign that Upstate New York’s early winter tease has arrived right on time for mid-November.
