RENSSELAER, NY – A pale dawn settled over the Hudson Valley Saturday, the air crisp enough to mist breath and glint frost on rooftops west of the river. The Capital Region’s string of calm fall days continues through Monday, but chilly nights ahead could deliver the season’s first patchy frost to rural valleys east of Albany.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, high pressure dominates this weekend’s weather with mostly sunny skies and daytime highs near the low to mid-50s. Light winds and clear skies tonight will help temperatures fall quickly into the 30s, making for a brisk Sunday morning. While Sunday afternoon stays mild and bright, colder air slips south from the Adirondacks by Monday morning, setting up another frosty start — especially along the Hudson River lowlands and into Rensselaer and Columbia Counties.

Drivers using I-87 or I-90 for early commutes Monday should watch for patchy fog in low-lying areas where frost formed overnight. Gardeners are urged to cover sensitive plants and bring potted herbs indoors through midweek.

The weather pattern remains stable through Tuesday, with dry conditions and light winds — ideal for fall cleanup, raking, or early Halloween decorating before late-week showers move in. By Wednesday, increasing clouds and slightly milder air will hint at another shift toward wetter weather heading into Halloween Friday.

A chilly November lies ahead, and this stretch of frosty calm may be the region’s last before winter edges closer.
