Parsippany-Troy Hills, N.J. – A wildfire shut down all westbound lanes on Interstate 80 near Mile Marker 41.6 Tuesday morning as firefighters worked to contain a 5-acre blaze in Morris County.
According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, crews are still on scene in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township where the fire broke out along the westbound side of I-80. Officials say the fire’s forward progress has been stopped, but smoke remains heavy and visible.
All westbound lanes of I-80 in the area remain closed as of Tuesday morning. The closure is causing major traffic delays for commuters heading west toward Mount Arlington and Netcong. Drivers are urged to avoid the area, use alternate routes, and be alert for emergency personnel and vehicles operating on and near the roadway.
Fire officials warn that smoke could persist into the afternoon as mop-up efforts continue. Visibility is reduced, and motorists should proceed with caution if traveling near the scene.
The fire is not expected to grow, but responders remain on high alert. No injuries have been reported.
⚠️ Closures and fire operations are expected to continue through the day. Updates will be posted as conditions change.
