DAVENPORT, IA — A crisp, gray sky and slow-falling flakes mark the first true winter setup for the Quad Cities region, as steady snow spreads across eastern Iowa and western Illinois this afternoon. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon to midnight, warning of 2 to 4 inches of snow likely through this evening.
The snow began pushing in from the west by midday and will intensify through late afternoon, creating slick, slushy roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute. I-80, I-74, and Route 61 are expected to see slowdowns as pavement temperatures remain near freezing. Winds are calm, but as the snow piles up, untreated roads and side streets will quickly become snow-covered.
Temperatures will dip into the teens tonight, creating a high risk for flash freezing on any wet surfaces. Plows will stay active across the metro area, but drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and leave extra braking distance.
By early Tuesday, the snow will move east and skies will partially clear. Sunshine returns briefly midweek, followed by another quick-hitting system that could bring light snow again by Wednesday night.
