ATLANTA, Ga. — The soft hum of early traffic and a faint chill in the air greet North Georgia this morning, but all eyes are on Tuesday’s weather shift. A cold front pushing through the Southeast will bring a quick round of showers — and a few thunderstorms — before skies clear just in time for Thanksgiving travelers hitting the road or the airport.

According to the National Weather Service in Atlanta, the city will stay dry through Monday, with highs near 70°F and plenty of sunshine. Clouds build late Monday as moisture increases from the Gulf, setting up a 60 to 90 percent chance of rain Tuesday into early Wednesday. Some of those showers could turn briefly heavy, especially south and east of the metro area, including along I-75, I-20, and I-285 during morning and midday travel.

Rainfall totals should stay moderate — around a half inch — but damp roads and scattered thunder could delay flights or slow traffic heading toward Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. By Wednesday afternoon, drier air arrives, dropping temperatures and humidity sharply. Thanksgiving Day will feature crisp sunshine and highs in the low 50s — a near-perfect setup for parades, morning runs, or backyard gatherings.

Looking beyond the holiday, cooler weather settles in for the weekend, with early mornings dipping into the 30s. Long-range models hint at a stronger cold surge entering the eastern U.S. by early December — possibly a winter teaser that could bring the region’s first frost of the season.
