Springfield, Ill. – Dry skies and comfortable late-summer weather are expected across central Illinois through the holiday weekend, with only a slim chance for rain near the I-74 corridor Thursday. Most areas from Peoria to Decatur should remain dry and seasonably warm.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a weak disturbance could trigger a stray shower Thursday afternoon near Bloomington or Champaign, but the overall rain chance remains low—just 10%. Temperatures will briefly rebound into the low to mid-80s Thursday before cooler air slides in for Friday and the weekend.
Highs Friday through Sunday will hover in the upper 70s to low 80s, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 50s—ideal for outdoor events and travel. Skies will be mostly clear, with just a few passing clouds each day and no widespread weather disruptions expected.
Motorists planning trips along I-55 or I-72 will find dry pavement and good visibility. Still, it’s worth staying weather-aware Thursday in case of isolated showers near I-74.
No watches or warnings are in effect, and no additional alerts are expected unless weather patterns shift.
