Indianapolis, IN – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect this morning for a broad stretch of central, east-central, south-central, southwest, and west-central Indiana, where periods of snow and gusty winds are expected to create slick travel through 10 AM Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Indianapolis.

The advisory includes Randolph, Hancock, Henry, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, Rush, Sullivan, Greene, Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, and Knox Counties—covering cities such as Indianapolis suburbs (Greenwood, Franklin, Mooresville), Bloomington, Columbus, Terre Haute, Shelbyville, Vincennes, and New Castle.

Snow totals are forecast between 1 and 4 inches, with the higher amounts most likely across southern and southwestern sections. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, reducing visibility at times and causing a light drift of snow on open roads.

Travel impacts will increase through the morning as snow accumulates on bridges, ramps, and untreated roads. Even minor accumulations may create hazardous patches due to temperatures hovering near freezing.

NWS warns that any melted snow may refreeze early Sunday, especially on shaded or untreated surfaces. Motorists traveling late tonight or early Sunday morning should use caution and watch for black ice.

Residents are urged to slow down, leave extra following distance, and check road updates through Indiana 511 before heading out. Pedestrians should also be careful on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways that may become icy.

Snow is expected to gradually taper overnight, with lingering slick conditions into early Sunday.
