Denver, CO – A new round of strong winds is expected to redevelop across Colorado’s Front Range late Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver/Boulder. The strongest gusts could reach 70 to 80 mph across the higher foothills, creating hazardous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles.
The NWS says gusty conditions will briefly diminish early Wednesday before strengthening again overnight as another disturbance moves through. While this wind event is not expected to be as intense as last week’s storm, it could still bring dangerous crosswinds and areas of blowing snow at higher elevations.
Travelers along Interstate 70 and surrounding mountain passes are urged to use caution, particularly from Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning, when winds will be strongest. Difficult driving conditions are expected for semis, box trucks, and recreational vehicles, with potential for brief lane restrictions or slowdowns.
Forecasters note that wind speeds should gradually decrease by midday Thursday, though gusty conditions could linger in open areas east of the foothills. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and stay updated on changing weather alerts.
Officials remind drivers to check travel advisories before heading into the mountains and avoid travel in high-profile vehicles if possible during peak wind hours.
