White County, Indiana – A single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 65 left one driver dead Tuesday afternoon.
According to Indiana State Police, troopers responded shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday to a crash on I-65 near the 193 mile marker in White County.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Francisco Miramontes indicates a yellow 2006 GMC Savana box truck was traveling southbound when it left the roadway and entered the median. Police said the driver allegedly overcorrected, causing the truck to roll onto its side, cross both lanes of traffic and come to rest on the right shoulder, where it caught fire.
A passerby who stopped to render aid was unable to reach the driver.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by the White County Coroner’s Office. Authorities said notification of next-of-kin has been made, and the driver’s name will be released by the coroner.
Troopers from the Lafayette Post were assisted by the Wolcott Fire Department, Wolcott Ambulance, Brookston Fire Department, Brookston First Responders, Monticello Fire Department, the Indiana Department of Transportation and Farney’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
