INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A warm, dry, and gusty stretch continues across Central Indiana, keeping fields and roadways tinder-dry through Tuesday as fire danger remains elevated. Unseasonably high temperatures near the mid-80s and low humidity are combining with southerly winds to heighten risk across farm country and open grasslands.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, an Elevated Fire Weather Statement remains in effect through early Tuesday, with gusts up to 25 mph possible along the I-65 and I-70 corridors. The agency warns that even a small spark could quickly spread in dry corn and bean fields. Officials urge residents to avoid burning debris, delay bonfires, and use caution with outdoor equipment.

While skies stay mostly sunny today and Monday, showers are expected to arrive late Monday into Tuesday, offering some relief. Rain chances increase to 60% Tuesday with embedded thunderstorms that may bring brief downpours and gusty winds. Cooler, calmer weather returns by midweek.

Farmers, pumpkin patch operators, and early Halloween decorators can expect one more stretch of classic, golden fall weather before the front brings change. Until then, limit open flames, secure outdoor decorations, and stay alert for shifting winds.
