CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Early Saturday brings mild air and patchy fog across western West Virginia, setting up a golden stretch of fall weather for Columbus Day travelers and outdoor events. Temperatures will stay comfortably warm through Monday before a cooler shift midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, fog could reduce visibility through 9 a.m. along low-lying areas and sections of I-64 and Route 119. Drivers should slow down and use low beams in fog-prone valleys early Saturday. Sunshine quickly returns, lifting temperatures into the mid-70s across the Kanawha Valley, ideal for pumpkin patch visits, hiking, and early holiday travel.

Sunday and Monday will stay mostly sunny with calm winds and highs near 74–76°F, perfect for parades and park events during the Columbus Day Holiday. The pleasant streak continues through Tuesday before a noticeable drop arrives by Wednesday, when highs dip into the upper 60s.

Forecasters expect clear skies and light winds at night, leading to cooler mornings late in the week. If trends hold, patchy frost could form in rural hollows by Thursday morning — a reminder that Fall’s first cold snap may arrive soon.

Residents are encouraged to prep gardens and protect sensitive plants later this week. For now, sunshine and calm weather dominate the start of mid-October across the Mountain State.
