CHICAGO, Ill. – Drivers along I-57 southeast of Chicago could see lingering thunderstorms Tuesday as a cold front pushes through northern Illinois. The storms, capable of producing brief downpours and gusty winds, are expected to weaken by evening as drier air settles in.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the front will bring a noticeable shift starting Wednesday, with cooler highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and lower humidity across the region. A few light sprinkles may persist into Wednesday morning near the Lake Michigan shoreline before skies clear.
Areas southeast of I-57, including Kankakee and portions of Will County, are most likely to see unsettled conditions through the day. Wet roads could make for slower commutes, and residents are urged to allow extra travel time. By midweek, however, sunshine will dominate with comfortable conditions stretching into the weekend.
The weather service advises avoiding flooded roadways and keeping an eye on rapidly changing conditions Tuesday. More stable weather is expected through Saturday, though cooler mornings may prompt light jacket weather by the end of the week.
