Lincoln, IL – Windy conditions will persist across east-central Illinois today as a strong low-pressure system moves through the region, bringing thunderstorms, rain, and a mix of snow. Areas east of Interstate 57 are expected to experience scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, followed by rain and snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln.

The NWS reports that wet snow accumulations could reach under an inch, mainly from I-72 near Danville northward. Temperatures today will range from the upper 50s to around 70 degrees before cooling significantly overnight, with lows between 30 and 39 degrees. Winds will remain gusty throughout the day.

Sunday will bring a brief break from precipitation, but temperatures will drop further, with highs only reaching the mid-40s. A chance of morning rain or snow remains possible before dry and mostly sunny conditions set in for Monday and Tuesday. Highs will climb back into the 60s by midweek.

Another weather system is expected to arrive midweek, bringing an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms by Wednesday. The NWS advises residents along I-57 to remain alert for changing conditions and possible travel impacts from wet and windy weather over the next several days.
