Springfield, IL – Drivers on the north side of Springfield are facing major delays today after a semi rollover shut down a key interstate ramp.
According to Illinois State Police Troop 6, troopers are on the scene of a semi truck rollover on Interstate 55 northbound at Exit 98A, Clearlake Avenue. Authorities said the ramp will be closed for “an extended period of time” while crews work to clear the crash.
No injuries have been reported at this time, but traffic in the area is being redirected. Police are urging motorists to avoid the area if possible and plan ahead for detours. The closure is expected to affect afternoon traffic, particularly drivers commuting into downtown Springfield.
The cause of the rollover has not yet been released. Tow trucks and cleanup crews remain on scene, and police have not given an estimate for reopening the ramp.
Drivers should consider alternate routes, including taking Stevenson Drive or Sangamon Avenue to bypass the closure. Local officials are advising travelers to allow extra time for their commutes.
