MEDFORD, Ore. – A soggy start to the weekend is giving way to improving skies and warmer afternoons by Sunday across southern Oregon. After two straight days of light to moderate rain, brighter weather is finally on the horizon for fall events, pumpkin patches, and outdoor markets.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, periods of rain will linger through early Saturday, with localized slick spots possible along I-5 between Grants Pass and Ashland. A few heavier showers may reduce visibility for early travelers, but conditions improve steadily by Sunday as drier air moves inland. Rain totals are expected to stay under a half inch, with mild highs near 60 degrees Saturday before a sunny jump into the low 60s on Columbus Day.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time on wet roads and check drainage around yards and driveways as soils remain damp from recent rainfall. Fall leaf-viewing should rebound by late weekend, with vivid color returning under sunnier skies. By early next week, cooler nights will bring patchy valley fog and crisp mornings—classic mid-October weather for southern Oregon.

The Rogue Valley’s extended pattern trends dry and mild through midweek, ideal for harvest activities and outdoor school events. Light jackets will be needed in the mornings, but no frost or freeze risks are expected through Thursday.
