Boston, MA – The National Weather Service in Boston has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of interior southern New England, warning of the potential for significant snowfall and hazardous travel Tuesday into Tuesday night.

The storm is expected to bring a mix of snow and rain near the coast, while areas north of the Mass Pike (I-90) and west of I-495 stand the best chance for heavy, plowable snow. Forecast models suggest totals could exceed 6 inches, particularly from the Worcester Hills to the Berkshires, where colder air will dominate.

Closer to the coast — including Boston, Providence, and coastal Connecticut — temperatures near freezing will likely lead to rain mixing with snow, reducing accumulation but still creating slick and slushy travel conditions.

The timing of the heaviest snow is expected Tuesday afternoon through late Tuesday night, potentially affecting the evening commute along the I-495 corridor and into western Massachusetts.

Forecasters emphasize that the storm track remains uncertain, meaning snow and ice totals could shift depending on the storm’s exact path. Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and plan for hazardous road conditions, especially inland.
