Houston, TX – Drivers across southeast Texas should prepare for disruptive storms Wednesday as heavy rain targets Houston and surrounding counties. The evening commute on I-45 and major surface roads could slow under pounding rainfall and scattered thunderstorms. Residents should charge devices, plan alternate routes, and avoid low-lying flood-prone areas through late Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston, showers will increase after 10 a.m. Wednesday, with storms intensifying by afternoon. Rainfall totals could exceed half an inch, with some isolated areas seeing higher amounts. A strong southwest wind at 10 mph will add to slick conditions on roads, especially during rush hour.

Wednesday night carries the highest threat. Thunderstorms may deliver localized flooding with up to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall. Travel along I-10, I-69, and Beltway 8 could be slowed or blocked by standing water through early Thursday. The storm chance decreases by midday Thursday, when drier air arrives with highs in the mid-80s.

By Friday, sunshine dominates and holds through the weekend. Warm afternoons near 87 degrees will provide a welcome break after the stormy midweek stretch. No cold fronts are expected yet, though early fall patterns hint at cooler weather settling in during October.

Storm warnings could be extended if rain lingers longer than expected. Residents should monitor updates, especially commuters traveling into downtown Houston and students returning home from after-school activities Wednesday.
