Green Bay, WI – The calm start to this December morning hides what’s on the horizon. Temperatures hover near 0°F, the air sharp and still — but forecasters say the next winter storm system will break that silence by Tuesday night, bringing heavy snow, blowing winds, and hazardous travel to northeast Wisconsin.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning for Brown, Outagamie, Manitowoc, Kewaunee, and surrounding counties. The system is expected to deliver 4 to 7 inches of snow, with locally heavier bands possible north and west of the Fox Valley.
Snow will begin Tuesday afternoon, becoming heavy at times overnight, and may linger into Wednesday’s morning commute. Visibility will drop quickly, and north winds gusting 25–30 mph could produce blowing and drifting snow, especially on open highways like I-43, U.S. 41, and Highway 29. Travelers are urged to plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm window.
By Thursday, skies clear but the cold deepens — wind chills could reach –20°F to –30°F late Friday into the weekend, making this one of the coldest stretches of the season so far.
