Hickory, NC – A Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EDT Friday for portions of the North Carolina foothills and Piedmont, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.

Overnight lows are expected to fall to around 34 degrees, producing patchy frost across areas north of Interstate 40, including Alexander, Iredell, Davie, Catawba, Rowan, Henderson, Burke, and Caldwell counties, as well as the mountainous portions of Rutherford and Polk counties.

Forecasters warn that frost could harm or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation, particularly in low-lying and sheltered areas. Residents in communities such as Hickory, Salisbury, Lenoir, Morganton, and Hendersonville are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover exposed crops before dawn.

Temperatures will gradually rise after sunrise, bringing an end to frost conditions by mid-morning. This advisory marks one of the first widespread frost events of the fall season across western North Carolina.

The NWS encourages residents to stay updated on local weather conditions, as additional frost advisories may be issued through the weekend with similar nighttime lows expected.
