SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The calm, starry skies over the Hill Country this morning won’t last long. A sharp wind shift and plunging humidity Sunday will bring critical fire weather conditions across much of South Central Texas, including Bexar, Comal, Travis, and Kerr counties, as a Fire Weather Watch takes effect.

The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio warns that strong north winds of 15 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching 40 mph, will develop after sunrise Sunday. Relative humidity could dip as low as 15 to 20 percent, quickly drying brush and grass across the Edwards Plateau, Rio Grande Plains, and Hill Country. With vegetation still tinder-dry, even a small spark could spread fast. Outdoor burning, welding, or any open flames are strongly discouraged through Sunday evening.

By Monday, winds will ease, and cooler, drier air will linger under clear skies. Morning lows drop into the low 40s, with sunny afternoons returning near 64°F—perfect for early Veterans Day plans.

For now, Sunday’s weather demands caution. Secure outdoor furniture, avoid parking on dry grass, and stay aware of local burn bans. The pattern turns calmer and warmer by midweek, with highs climbing back into the low 80s by Wednesday. Though this early-November setup brings no rain, it signals Texas’ seasonal transition—sunny, breezy, and ripe for quick shifts that keep both fire crews and travelers alert.
