AUSTIN–SAN ANTONIO, TX – The dawn sky glows red over dry Texas hills, and the air feels restless — warm, dusty, and sharp. Flags along the highways ripple under gusty southerly winds as critical fire weather conditions take hold across South Central Texas this Veterans Day morning.

The National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the region, including the Hill Country, I-35 corridor, and San Antonio metro. South winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts near 30 mph, will combine with humidity levels as low as 15 to 25 percent — conditions that could cause wildfires to ignite and spread quickly.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Residents should secure loose materials, avoid discarding cigarettes, and delay brush-clearing or grilling activities until winds ease. Even a small spark could flare rapidly across dry grass or open land.

Temperatures today will rise into the low to mid-70s, with clear skies and continued dryness into midweek. Winds relax by Wednesday, setting up a stretch of warm, sunny weather that could push highs into the low 80s by Thursday. The late-week pattern favors outdoor plans and travel prep heading toward Thanksgiving but also keeps grass and soil moisture dangerously low.

No rain is expected through the weekend, keeping the fire danger elevated. If this dry trend continues, additional fire weather alerts may be issued later in the week for the Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande Valley.

Five-Day Outlook for San Antonio, TX:

Fri: 85/67 – Mostly sunny; mild breeze.
Sat: 87/67 – Partly cloudy; 20% storm chance.
