DENVER, Colo. – A sharp chill grips the Front Range this Tuesday morning as clear skies and calm winds deliver the season’s first freeze warning across the Denver metro. Frost sparkles on rooftops, lawns, and windshields from Fort Collins to Castle Rock, marking Colorado’s clearest signal yet that winter is closing in.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, the Freeze Warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday for much of the I-25 corridor, including Jefferson, Boulder, and Adams counties. Temperatures dipped into the upper 20s and low 30s across lower elevations, cold enough to damage late-season vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to move potted plants indoors, cover garden beds, and wrap sprinkler systems before another cold surge arrives later this week.

Despite the frigid start, a dramatic rebound follows. Sunshine dominates Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs soaring into the upper 70s and low 80s by midweek. The quick warm-up brings a dry, pleasant stretch—ideal for outdoor work and Halloween preparations—though gusty winds are likely to return to higher terrain.

By Thursday, weak showers may drift across the foothills and plains, hinting at a more active late-week pattern. Friday looks cooler, with highs in the 60s and breezy afternoon conditions, before calmer, sunny weather returns for the weekend. Still, with the first freeze behind and colder air waiting in the wings, this week marks the unmistakable pivot toward Colorado’s early winter season.
