Lake Charles, Louisiana — The National Weather Service is monitoring the potential for freezing rain and light ice accumulation across interior Southeast Texas late Saturday night into Sunday as colder air moves into the region.

According to the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles, a colder air mass—delayed from earlier forecasts—is expected to arrive late Friday into Saturday. Temperatures are forecast to fall below freezing across the East Texas Lakes region into Central Louisiana by late Saturday afternoon, with interior Southeast Texas remaining below freezing for up to 24 to 48 hours.

Forecasters indicate a 45% to 80% chance of measurable ice accumulation along and north of the Highway 190 corridor. Between Interstate 10 and Highway 190, ice accumulation probabilities range from 20% to 45%, while areas south of I-10 toward the coast have a lower 0% to 25% chance.

Ice accumulation amounts of a tenth to a quarter inch remain possible across portions of interior Southeast Texas and Central Louisiana. Confidence in ice amounts is moderate, while confidence in how far south freezing rain may extend remains lower, particularly near the I-10 corridor.

Potential impacts include slick roadways, especially on bridges and overpasses, along with possible travel disruptions Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Behind the precipitation, temperatures are forecast to drop sharply, with near-record low temperatures possible Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Residents, commuters, and overnight workers are urged to monitor forecast updates closely as timing and impacts become clearer.
