Miami, FL – The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring a tropical disturbance in the central Caribbean Sea that shows a 70% chance of cyclone development within the next seven days.

According to the NHC’s Sunday afternoon update, the system — labeled Disturbance 1 — is producing widespread showers and thunderstorms as it moves west-northwest toward the western Caribbean. Forecasters say environmental conditions appear favorable for gradual organization, with the potential for a tropical depression or storm to form by midweek.

The area of concern extends from the eastern Caribbean toward the Yucatán Channel, suggesting possible impacts to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and parts of Central America later in the week.

Meteorologists emphasize that hurricane season remains active through November 30, urging residents across the Caribbean and the U.S. Gulf Coast to monitor updates from the NHC and review preparedness plans.
