Phoenix, AZ – Arizona residents should prepare for a surge of tropical moisture this week as remnants of Hurricane Priscilla bring elevated rain chances across much of the state, forecasters said Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Priscilla’s moisture will funnel north into the region beginning Thursday, potentially lasting through the weekend. Meteorologists say this system could push moisture levels to 200–300% of normal, increasing the likelihood of heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
Rain is expected to begin in southeast California and western Arizona before shifting into central Arizona through the weekend. While rainfall totals remain uncertain, projections range from light showers to more than 2.5 inches in some areas, depending on storm development.
The Arizona Department of Transportation urged travelers to plan ahead for possible wet roads, reduced visibility, and delays. Motorists are advised to check forecasts and road conditions before heading out, especially along Interstate 10 and State Route 89 where travel could be impacted.
Forecasters emphasize that the exact timing and intensity of rainfall may vary. “There is still considerable uncertainty in total rainfall amounts,” the weather service noted, adding that residents should continue to monitor weather.gov/phoenix for the latest updates.
