Bermuda – Hurricane Melissa continues to move north-northeast across the western Atlantic on Thursday, with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) warning that hurricane conditions are expected in Bermuda tonight. Tropical storm-force winds are forecast to begin later this afternoon, followed by hurricane-force gusts overnight.

As of 8 a.m. EDT Thursday, October 30, 2025, Melissa was centered near 26.8°N, 72.7°W with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, making it a Category 2 hurricane. The storm is moving north-northeast at 21 mph, according to the NHC’s Advisory 36.

The agency urges Bermuda residents to rush preparations to completion before conditions worsen. A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for the island. NOAA cautions that hazardous weather—including strong winds, storm surge, and heavy rainfall—can occur well outside the forecast cone.

Flooding across the Bahamas is expected to subside today, while residual flooding in Cuba, Jamaica, and Hispaniola could persist for several more days. Post-storm safety reminders include ensuring proper generator ventilation, avoiding power tools in wet conditions, and staying hydrated during cleanup.

Hurricane Melissa is forecast to continue northeast into the open Atlantic through the weekend, gradually weakening into a post-tropical system by early next week.
