Washington, D.C. – Hurricane-force winds and treacherous seas are forecast for the North Atlantic waters near Washington, D.C., through Monday, creating hazardous conditions for maritime activity.
The National Weather Service has issued a hurricane-force wind warning for the region, with winds reaching 65 knots and waves towering up to 21 feet overnight. The strongest winds will shift to the northwest Sunday before gradually weakening into Monday. Rain and scattered thunderstorms will accompany the system, reducing visibility and increasing risks for vessels.
Mariners are advised to avoid offshore waters during the warning period and to secure all equipment. Ports along the Mid-Atlantic coast, including Baltimore and Norfolk, may experience delays or closures. Recreational boaters should remain docked and monitor updates closely.
These conditions are part of a powerful storm system that will gradually move out of the region by Tuesday, allowing seas to subside. Coastal residents should remain alert for potential flooding along vulnerable shorelines.
