Columbia, S.C. – Residents across the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area can expect a mostly dry Tuesday as Hurricane Erin spins well offshore, helping suppress rainfall locally. Highs will climb into the upper 80s to near 90 under partly sunny skies.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, Erin is not forecast to bring direct impacts to South Carolina but will influence local weather by driving sinking air aloft, limiting thunderstorm development. That subsidence is expected to keep showers isolated, a shift from the recent stretch of unsettled afternoons.

Communities from Lexington to Aiken and into Orangeburg should still prepare for brief pop-up storms, but widespread downpours are unlikely. Roadways across I-20 and I-26 should remain mostly dry during peak commute hours, though heat and humidity will remain noticeable.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated during outdoor activities as temperatures push near 90 with elevated humidity. Conditions are expected to stay relatively dry until midweek, though moisture could return later as Erin tracks farther north.

More updates may be issued if storm chances increase again toward Thursday.
