Corpus Christi, Texas – Hurricane Erin will remain in the open Atlantic, but a new tropical wave is drawing attention as it pushes westward this week. The National Hurricane Center reports the system has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone between midweek and Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, the disturbance is moving toward the Leeward Islands and could strengthen as it tracks across warm Atlantic waters. While Erin poses no threat to the U.S. mainland, officials caution Gulf Coast residents to stay alert as late August remains a peak period for hurricane activity.

Communities along the Texas Gulf Coast are not under immediate threat, but emergency managers recommend keeping storm kits ready, reviewing evacuation routes, and monitoring daily advisories. Travel to Caribbean destinations could also be affected if the system organizes by the weekend.

Residents and visitors are urged to check for updates from the NHC and local emergency agencies as the disturbance progresses westward. Additional advisories may be issued later this week.
