Huntsville, AL – The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a dangerous cold alert for Saturday night through Monday morning, warning that temperatures will plunge below freezing with wind chills dropping into the single digits across North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee.
Forecasters say a strong cold front will move through Saturday evening, sending temperatures below 32°F by late Saturday night, with highs only in the 20s and 30s Sunday. Overnight lows will fall into the teens, and wind chills near 5–10°F are expected Sunday night into Monday morning.
According to the NWS, “Temperatures will fall below freezing Saturday night and remain below through Monday morning, with breezy northerly winds bringing wind chills down into the single digits.”
Residents are urged to:
- Bundle up and limit time outdoors from Saturday night through Monday morning.
- Bring pets indoors and ensure livestock have dry shelter and unfrozen water.
- Drip indoor faucets and protect pipes from freezing.
- Check on elderly neighbors and anyone without adequate heating.
Officials recommend dressing in several warm layers, wearing gloves and hats, and using face protection in exposed conditions.
