HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Thunderstorms are expected to flare up again Saturday across northern Alabama, especially east of Interstate 65, where cooler highs in the low 80s will contrast with warmer mid-80s west of the highway.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, scattered showers and storms will linger through Sunday with rain chances up to 70% in some areas east of I-65. Brief heavy downpours and lightning could slow travel along U.S. 72 and other east–west routes during the afternoon.

By Monday, the unsettled pattern begins to ease as highs dip into the upper 70s and low 80s. A stronger push of cooler, drier air arrives Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing crisp mornings in the mid-50s and daytime highs holding in the 70s. The shift will mark one of the first fall-like stretches of the season.

Drivers are urged to watch for ponding on roads during downpours this weekend, and residents may want to keep umbrellas handy until the drier air settles in next week.

Showers taper off by Tuesday night, with sunshine and comfortable humidity expected midweek. Additional advisories may be issued if stronger storms develop Saturday afternoon.
