HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – North Alabama could see scattered thunderstorms Friday afternoon before skies clear for a stretch of sunny, warm days into next week. Highs today will reach near 81 degrees, but storms could bring brief downpours between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, Friday carries a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly in Madison County and surrounding areas. Winds will remain light, but drivers should watch for slick roads and sudden visibility drops during heavier showers.

By Friday night, skies turn partly cloudy with lows dipping near 63 degrees. From Saturday through Tuesday, conditions improve dramatically with sunny skies and highs climbing into the mid-80s. Nights will be mostly clear, allowing for cooler evenings in the low to mid-60s.

Residents planning outdoor events this weekend can expect calm weather, but forecasters advise keeping hydrated as temperatures steadily warm. Those traveling on I-565 or U.S. 72 will avoid storm delays once the rain exits Friday evening.

The next chance for unsettled weather does not appear until midweek, giving Huntsville and Madison County a quiet start to October.
