HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Morning showers moved out early Wednesday, but storm chances aren’t done yet for north Alabama. More showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, with a stronger round of storms building after midnight and into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, coverage of storms will increase across the Tennessee Valley late tonight, with the highest risk of strong to severe weather arriving Thursday afternoon. Forecasters warn that damaging winds and heavy downpours will be the main threats, though small hail can’t be ruled out.

Huntsville, Madison, and Decatur could see localized flooding in low-lying spots, especially if storms train over the same areas. Road crews are urging drivers to allow extra travel time Thursday, as ponding on busy stretches like I-565 and U.S. 72 may slow traffic during the evening commute.

By Friday, drier conditions return with highs pushing into the lower 90s, but storms make a comeback Saturday before cooler, less humid air settles in on Sunday. Residents should keep phones charged and be ready to receive weather alerts if warnings are issued.

Storm chances remain in place through Thursday evening, and more updates are expected as conditions develop.
